LOCAL MISSIONS
• Hunger and Help Offerings The first Sunday of each month, a "Hunger and Help" offering is collected for a special designation decided upon by the Outreach Ministry team. This can be of local, national or global interest.
•Sudanese Presbyterian Church
We have very much enjoyed our fellowship with the Sudanese Presbyterian Church in Gallatin. Last year DPC was fortunate to co-host with the Sudanese Presbyterian Church the worship service to close the PCUSA Immigrant Church Pastors’ Conference. There DPC was first introduced to their wonderful choir. Their Pastor Ernest Newsom and some of their church members returned in April to speak at an AGAPE, sharing their life stories and allowing us to hear their joyful singing once again. Members and friends of DPC have worked with members of the Sudanese Presbyterian Church to renovate their sanctuary through labor and gifts and also have assisted them in planting a field of crops. We look forward to working with them again this planting and harvesting season!
NATIONAL MISSIONS
•Youth Mission Trip We are extremely proud of our senior high youth as they have elected to return to work in New Orleans for a second straight year. Last year they spent a week gutting houses that had been vacated immediately following hurricane Katrina. The back-breaking work tired their bodies, but energized their souls and so they have chosen to return for more grueling work this summer.
INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS
• PC(USA) Missionaries
We can see the tangible effects of God’s grace working through the Presbyterian Church’s international missions in our Sudanese Presbyterian brothers and sisters in Gallatin; as most of them became a Christian and Presbyterian while still in the Sudan. In fact most of them are refugees who have suffered persecution from the Sudanese government and were forced to flee their homes and their country due to their faith. We feel a strong calling to support our Presbyterian Church’s international efforts through prayer, fellowship and financial support. Through prayerful consideration we have decided to support the Marriots and the Harveys two missionary families who have visited DPC over the past year. We will support them through regular prayer and quarterly Hunger and Help Offerings. We hope to have them back at our church regularly so that we can continue to strengthen our bonds with them but, until they can return in person, we will be in regular contact via letters and emails. Also below are the Harvey’s and the Marriots website address where you can learn more about their amazing, God-inspired work. Peace be with you, The Outreach Committee The Harveys and the Marriots would love to hear from you too so please don’t hesitate to email or send them a letter The Harveys : http://www.pcusa.org/missionconnections/profiles/harveyt.htm The Marriots: http://www.pcusa.org/missionconnections/profiles/marriottr.htm
